Final Day

Friday was our last day of work in Tegucigalpa.  People were very busy finishing things up but most importantly, making sure the relationships we were building with the people here, continued.  The church and the leaders are very appreciative of the time we spend here, and treat us very much like family.  We have been taken care of very well by the two lovely ladies who cook and clean for the mission house.  It seems somewhat ironic that we are taken care of so well, when we know what lies right outside our doors.

All teams usually shut down a little early to get stuff packed up and loaded up in the trucks for the next weeks mission.  It's quite the task and take some time and coordination, but it's all hands on deck and we usually get it done in a reasonable amount of time.  Optical has about 2000 prescription glasses to pack up and a whole bunch more readers, cases, and other miscellaneous things. We pack It all up into suitcases and special eye glass boxes.  Even with a shortened day today we still managed to make our total for the week about 390 people seen.  That's a great number, and I don't believe we have seen that many people before in a week.  Who knows what next week in Escuapa will bring.

We ended the day with a celebration dinner, including all of our translators, cook and house cleaner.  The guys from the states cooked American burgers and treated our cook to a night off.  Usually we go to a restaurant, but this was a treat to be able to stay in the house and spend more time talking with the group.  Thanks to Matt, Jim, Tom and Rob for cooking.

6 of our team are leaving early in the morning for their flight out to the States, and couple more leave later in the morning, and 6 of us stay behind for the second week.  Later in the afternoon on Saturday we will pick up the remaining 23 people coming in for the second week mission.  We will have lunch and then make the bumpy ride up to Danili, which is where we spend our nights.

It's been a great week, with a great team.  Despite the tough times, it has been fun and the dynamic of this group is awesome.  Everyone embraces each other no matter their differences, and if you were new to the group - you felt like an old timer by the end of the week.  Such a blessing to be part of this mission.

That's all for now - here are some photos from the groups today and shots of the guys loading the truck.
